Last time you caught up on our blog page, you were informed on the topic of shoulder fractures. Now, we are truly hoping most of our patients are staying home and avoiding leaving their houses at all costs. However, if you or someone else is involved in a car accident, call our Oviedo office to discuss shoulder fracture treatment routes.

Car accident injuries:

Car accidents can cause a whole array of injuries. We have honed in on the shoulder area this month. In the last article, different types of fractures were explained.

This week, it is time to share what you and your medical professional team can offer you. Treatment for car accident injuries will never look identical to the next. This is why it is so important to be seen by experienced medical professionals.

Our community has been advised to avoid hospitals, public places, and other areas where you might be exposed to the Coronavirus- unless you cannot avoid the emergency room for whatever reason. Although people are discouraged from seeking medical attention at local hospitals for a coronavirus test or care, many are flocking over to hospitals and urgent care centers.

Be as informed as you can during this pandemic. By being knowledgeable of the proper protocol, you can help stop the spread and eventually flatten the curve. Be sure to sanitize your environment often if you are considered an essential worker and must be physically present for work.

Use disinfectants as often as possible and wash your hands for at least twenty seconds to properly disinfectant. Now, if you wish to make an appointment, go through the list of symptoms and be sure that you are in dire need of leaving the house. If your pain in manageable, you and the ProCare Health & Rehab Centers team may need to discuss if the best course of action.

Diagnosing a shoulder injury:

Depending on the degree of pain or appearance of the injury, doctors usually begin with a physical examination. This may involve moving the arm around if the pain is not excruciating. On the other hand, if you are in a horrible amount of pain, the medical professional will likely do an X-ray.

Sometimes, additional imaging techniques are necessary. For example, computed tomography may be required. Why don’t we begin talking about what we can do for these injuries once they have been diagnosed?

Shoulder fracture treatment routes:

It is very frightening to be diagnosed with any sort of illness or injury. However, ProCare has incredible medical professional ready to explain the next step in your healing journey. Each treatment plan will depend on the person’s health and the injury.

Most clavicle fractures can be treated without a surgery. Surgery is needed when there is a compound fracture that has broken through the skin. Also, it is necessary if the bone is severely out of place. Surgery involved fixing the fracture with possibly plates, rods, and screws.

For many proximal humerus fractures, the treatment plan may not require surgery. This is only the case if the bone fragments are not shifted out of position, also called displaced. When the fragments are shifted out of place, surgery is most likely required.

Surgery usually involves putting the fragments back where they belong. Sometimes, this situation may require shoulder replacement. In this case, this will be brought to the patients attention and further discussed. Be sure to come back next time as we move onto scapula fracture treatment and more.

Remember, do not leave the house for anything unless it is a dire need. Walk outside of your home or have video chats. Order groceries for delivery or contact-free pickup. Stay safe!
