The immune system has a large role in the way our bodies heal. Especially after car accidents, our physical and mental health works hard to get back to normal. In today’s blog, we will be sharing valuable information about the immune system.

Food and activity levels:

Last week, food portions were discussed. It was shared that large food portions and the times at which food is consumed heavily influences the body’s energy levels- therefore worsening or improving the immune system. Many Americans try to live by the eighty/twenty rule.

In this way of life, it is thought less of a diet and more as a long-term lifestyle principle. While using the eighty/twenty rule, people eat as healthy as they can for eighty percent of the time. During the other twenty percent of the time, they simply indulge!

Here is the great part about eating with these guidelines. When a person reaches for a treat, they are likely to eat far less of the treat than if they were not eating healthy the other eighty percent of the time. The stomach gets familiar with portioning and does not crave artificial or processed sugars as much.

Eating healthier while the body is recovering from an injury is advantageous to the overall healing journey. Before heading to the gym or physical therapist’s office, it is unlikely that a person will indulge in a slice of cake as they will surely regret it once they get their body moving. It is not uncommon for someone to become nauseous once they indulge right before physical activity.

How to stay healthy during COVID-19:

Now that we have discussed what you can consume to make yourself feel better, you are likely to feel more inclined to get active. Once you feed your body ideal foods, the chances of you taking a leisurely stroll instead of being a couch potato increases. Similarly, once a person feels the benefits of eating healthier, they are likely to continue the healthy pattern.

When a part of the body is hurting, the immune system stresses out. This is why it is just that much more important, now more than ever, to treat our bodies the best we can- including the immune system. Do not make it work harder. Instead, boost it with our tips.

For people with compromised immune systems, this time in life can be very challenging. COVID-19 has forced many with compromised or weakened immune system to truly avoid as much contact with other people as possible.

This is especially challenging for those with lower household incomes. How does one provide healthy food, medical care, and physical activity when they must leave the house for work? It becomes extremely difficult.

Give the immune system a fighting chance:

Giving your immune system a boost by giving it its best shot at fighting, or avoiding, the coronavirus is all many people can do. After wearing a mask, washing hands as often as possible, using hand sanitizer, and avoiding crowded places, boosting the immune system is the next logical step in a COVID-19 self-care regimen.

Come back next week as we share what you can do at home or in preparation for school starting up soon. We thank you for coming back again and welcome new readers too. Come back next time for more insight.
