Chiropractor-Approved Stretches for Wrist Pain and Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

Have you been experiencing wrist pain or feeling the symptoms of carpal tunnel syndrome? In the technological age we live in, many Americans spend a large portion of the day on a computer or other device. The prolonged use of the wrist can lead to hand and wrist pain or even carpal tunnel syndrome. Try these chiropractor-approved wrist stretches for pain or carpal tunnel syndrome to help find relief.

3 Wrist Stretches for Carpal Tunnel Pain

1.) Stress Ball Squeeze

Squeezing a stress ball or tennis ball can help to strengthen your wrist. Firmly squeeze the ball for 5-10 seconds, then release. Repeat this 10 times with each hand.

2.) Forearm Stretch

Extend your arm, palm facing out. Using the other hand, gently pull back from the fingers. You should feel the stretch from the wrist to the elbow. Hold this position for 15 seconds. Then drop your hand so that your fingers point towards the ground with your palm facing your body. With the other hand, gently pull the wrist towards your body and hold for 15 seconds. Repeat with the other arm. Shake out your hands afterward.

3.) Wrist Rotations

Rotate the wrist in a circular motion. Do this in both directions. Also, try a “hammer” rotation. Make a loose fist, rotating the wrists and forearm so that your thumb is on top, pinky on the bottom. Pretend you are holding a hammer and, moving only from the wrist, move your hand up and down.

What Else Can I Do to Help with Wrist Pain?

Book an Assisted Stretching Session

Assisted stretching is stretching with the help of a stretch therapist. A stretch therapist utilizes different techniques to create a more impactful stretch. Assisted stretching can target the source of the problem, addressing the individual needs of each person. A stretch therapist can also give tips for more targeted stretches that you can do at home.

Meet with a Chiropractor

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome and wrist pain are often the results of compression in the median nerve. The median nerve runs from the fingertips, through the carpal tunnel, and up the arm to the spinal cord. Getting regular chiropractic adjustments helps to relieve pressure on that nerve. A chiropractor will adjust the neck and wrist and address any other areas that could be contributing to the pain.

Between your chiropractic visits and doing these at-home wrist stretches for pain and carpal tunnel syndrome you can find the relief you are looking for.
