In this post, we will share the correct sitting and standing posture positions and their importance.

Correct Sitting and Standing Posture: Why It’s Important

Why Is Proper Posture Important?

Posture has a direct impact on many aspects of daily living. Poor posture can lead to issues such as, but not limited to, back pain, headaches, spinal and joint problems, and poor circulation. Meanwhile, keeping posture in the correct alignment leads to increased energy levels, better digestion and respiratory function, and decreased discomfort.

Proper Standing Posture

Being conscious of your posture helps to maintain a good stance. Imagine you are standing with your back to the wall. Stand upright, head straight, with shoulders back. Keep your stomach in, feet shoulder-width apart, and arms hanging naturally at your sides. Rounding shoulders, jutting hips to one side, or curving the back may feel comfortable in the moment but are examples of poor posture that can lead to pain.

Correct Sitting Posture

The more time we spend sitting, the more strain we put on different areas of our spine. Combat the pressure by sitting correctly whenever possible. Proper sitting posture looks like this: Correct Sitting and Standing Posture: Why It’s Important

  • Keep the head level
  • Ears aligned with shoulders
  • Shoulders back and relaxed
  • Back flush against the chair
  • Arms parallel to the floor
  • Wrists at elbow level
  • Knees bent at a 90-degree angle
