What is whiplash and how is it caused?

Mayo Clinic describes whiplash as a “neck injury due to forceful, rapid back-and-forth movement of the neck, like the cracking of a whip.” Often the result of a fender-bender, whiplash can also be a sports-related injury or the result of any trauma directly impacting the neck. Also known as a neck sprain, it affects the muscles, joints, discs, and nerves around the neck.

What should I do if I think I have whiplash?
